Wow, and wow!This is the first book I have read by this author, Shalini Boland. This was one heck of a story. I was hooked at the first few pages. The book never had me skipping a page, or feeling like I wanted a chapter to end, I was engrossed! And the ending, just when you think you have it figured out, you get taken for another loop! The ending to me is what makes a book, at times you will read a book, and the ending, well, it will just ruin the whole story . But not this one!!I will be reading more by this author, that is for sure!!!So to those of you that like a thrilling read, you will love this one!!
Ever since ‘The Girl from the Sea’, I’ve one-clicked Boland’s thrillers like they’re made of chocolate! She’s done it—yet again—with this one! My worst nightmares (as a mom) came alive in this book. ‘Unputdownable’ is right!
Easy to follow. Characters were well developed, which made up for the fact that plotline moved a little slower than I'd liked. As we watch Gemma's life fall apart, things that seemed straightforward begin to crack. The mystery being who is the nanny & and why is she there. Towards the end all questions are answered and in a delightfully twisty way. The last few chapters kept me glued, a rollercoaster ride that tranformed the whole book. Very unexpected and enjoyable.oI gave a 4 rating only because the story seemed too dragged out and cliche, but am. glad I read it through to the end. Would recommend it.
I thought this book started out great. Most of it then read like a Lifetime Movie, plot, one of which I've seen many times. It did have a twist at the end (although it didn't really surprise me; kind of had part of it figured out). I guess when I analyzed the whole plot at the end, it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I love The Girl from The Sea, and other books by this author. This one didn't quite do it for me.
Shalini Boland is one of my favorite writers . I have read and loved every one of her books. One of the things that is so good about her writing is the uniqueness of her stories. This story is definitely unique and surprising. It is a story about a working mother trying to manage a successful career and a wonderful family at the same time. Feeling she is needing some help at the homefront, she decides to hire a nanny to eleveat some of the stress. At some point she begins to regret this decision and things start falling apart. What is behind her fears? Is she losing her mind or is there more to it? A great read...highly recommended!
This is the first book I've read by Shalini Boland, and I have downloaded another one. Perfect Family is a psychological thriller with twists. I was drawn into the story right away when one of Gemma's two girls goes missing and later is found with her grandmother who just happened to be on the street where she was. After this disturbing incident, more odd things start to happen. The two girls start acting out at school, and with both parents working long hours the sisters become resentful. The author winds the tension up until the explosive ending. This is a book I couldn't put down. I can't wait to read more of this author's work. Loved it!
What a great psychological thriller! I was engrossed in this story from the beginning. Right away, you are drawn in by the characters and the world they inhabit. Shalini Boland is a great storyteller and I could visualise everything as I read. I would figure out what I thought was happening, then more information would come to light... I thought I knew exactly where this story was going two or three times — I was so wrong! I could work out part of the puzzle, but the next few pieces just did not fit right... I did not see that ending coming — it was well worth the wait!AfterThough: This is the first book I have read by Shalini Boland, but it will not be the last!
I love Shalini Boland's writing style and she has written another 5 Star book. I couldn't stop reading The Perfect Family, I had to find out what was going to happen with Gemma and Sadie. Gemma is an extremely hard working business woman with a husband, Robert and two daughters Eva and Katie. She spends more time working than with her family. Her mother-in-law, Diane, suggests she hire a nanny to tutor Eva for an important test and help around the house. Gemma is not keen on this idea but finally agrees and hires Sadie. At first things go smoothly but then you get the twists in the plot. Once this happens you won't be able to put this book down. I did not see the ending coming.
