About the Author
Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925) was born in the small village of Kraljevec, Austro-Hungarian Empire (now in Croatia), where he grew up (see right). As a young man, he lived in Weimar and Berlin, where he became a well-published scientific, literary, and philosophical scholar, known especially for his work with Goethe’s scientific writings. At the beginning of the twentieth century, he began to develop his early philosophical principles into an approach to systematic research into psychological and spiritual phenomena. Formally beginning his spiritual teaching career under the auspices of the Theosophical Society, Steiner came to use the term Anthroposophy (and spiritual science) for his philosophy, spiritual research, and findings. The influence of Steiner’s multifaceted genius has led to innovative and holistic approaches in medicine, various therapies, philosophy, religious renewal, Waldorf education, education for special needs, threefold economics, biodynamic agriculture, Goethean science, architecture, and the arts of drama, speech, and eurythmy. In 1924, Rudolf Steiner founded the General Anthroposophical Society, which today has branches throughout the world. He died in Dornach, Switzerland.

I had only ever heard Steiner's name mentioned relative to education. I'm in my mid 60s and I've never really left the "classroom" in a manner of speaking. But he writes outwardly what I've taken to be the course of my life , even before I've read his work. So in that respect this book, my first of his, has been rather mind-blowing. I can't speak for other people , look for me it's almost as if I received the message that I've been on track . I can't speak highly enough of this book . There is so much Truth in it that as I come across new ideas he has written here , I'm approaching it as more truth pointing in the right direction . Your experiences may differ but Wow.
I found a lot of personal support in this book during a trying time. I do not agree with his interpretation of the guardian of the threshold, and believe that he has largely burrowed from other sources. Everyone's battle with this nemesis is hard fought and is as heavy as your personal strengths are. The more you triumph, the more it lures and haunts. Then again, this may be exactly what he means... All except for that, I found every bit useful, engaging and supportive.
This is the same book which was originally titled "Knowledge of Other Worlds and Its Attainment".Every person on the spiritual path should read Steiner's books.
I recommend to all seekers for truth about themselves. I have most of his books. one of my favorite authors
A great book from Rudolf Steiner about how to acquire clairvoyant vision and understanding the spiritual worlds in general. From all his excellent books, this one is my favorite. It is practical and to the point.
Do not get this version of this book. It is difficult to read, and apparently abridged. Make sure to get How to Know Higher Worlds: A Modern Path of Initiation (Classics in Anthroposophy), the one with the watercolor on the cover. It is the complete and "official" version. My mentor had me go back through and read the other edition, which ended up being much easier to for me to understand. He had never heard of this publisher before. I have had difficulty with several Steiner books on Amazon. I recommend just going to the publisher's website, Steinerbooks.com, and ordering from there.
Multiple veils are removed, allowing glimpses into the (unseen) mechanisms in the spiritual world, which permit human life to be possible in the physical world, concomitant with the processes and events going on around us at all times.The author provides valuable insight into the development of spiritual sense organs, analogous to our physical sense organs, which must occur in order to be able to perceive anything in the "supersensible" spiritual worlds; which begins thru control of one's personal Thought Life. However, one would have to virtually sequester themselves from most of modern life in order to be able to exercise such Thought Control today (i.e. no Daily News, no Facebook, no other Social media, no TV or Movies, nor Radio, MTV, Music etc.) --- a challenge for the esoteric student.However, for more practical (though, no less challenging) exercises for development, esoteric students should read Franz Bardon's book, "Initiation Into Hermetics".Having achieved development of the requisite spiritual sense organs, the student must then encounter the Guardians of the Threshold into the Spiritual world (one Lesser Guardian, and one Greater Guardian).I give this book 4 out of 5 stars, simply based on the poor quality of the Kindle edition. There are 50 or more instances where the text breaks off on one page, and fails to pick on the following page where the preceding sentence or paragraph left off. The reader is left to surmise the content of the missing segment - - - very annoying to say the least.
This version of the translation is much more clear. And the content of each chapter applies to everyday life. The joy of reading this book is immense.
