If I could give this book of short stories no stars that would give me much pleasure, first of all The Lifeguard is a book previously released, altough advertised "First Time In Print", is incorrect, I was enticed to purchase a book previouly purchased & read, lied to as it was supposedly first time in print, false advertising, shame on you. The second story, the "Doctor's Plot by Author Connor Hyde", started out very interesting holding the readers interest, then it ended abruptly with a betrayal of the main characters & left the characters being killed! Connor Hyde needs to finish what he starts, not leave readers hanging suddenly the by ending the book, Mr. Hyde needs to change his style & the stories' ending or is this a "To Be Continued"? I was so disappointed I did not read the third story, "The Shut in by author Duane Swierczynski", I hope his story is better written & being associated with My. Hyde & Mr. James Patterson does not damage his literary career. I have been a fan of Mr. James Patterson since his first novel, but no longer I am sorry since he has allowed Mr. Hyde to publish his style of story (not a novel) associated under his name, poor choice Mr. Patterson! I am not in the habit usually submitting reviews on books I have read, but felt my opinion needs to be published!
MISINFORMATION!! Cover says "in print for the first time", therefore I purchased it. The Lawyer Lifeguard was OK, The Doctor's Plot started OK but went down hill fast and ending was ridiculous! Then I started The Shut-In only to recognize it! It was published as a BookShot in March 23, 2017! What a disappointment. I have been reading James Patterson for a number of years. In the last year or so several of his books have been a big disappointment. I seriously thinking of giving up on him and not reading any more of his books.
Let's see ....... one story that I have already read as a Bookshot, one story with a very poor ending and one story that was mediocre at best. I feel like two stars is being generous Mr. Patterson. I guess it is all about quantity over quality.
The only reason I gave this book a 1-star was I could not give it 0-star. 1st story has been printed before contrary to advertisement on front cover. 2nd story seems like it was co-authored by Josef Mengele & has place a place on top shelf of Nazi 3rd Reich library. This story should have never printed nor sold. Shame on Jame Patterson & Conner Hyde. Their objective seems to be to make money off news from a sick culture. I finally gathered the courage to read the 3rd story - not great but acceptable.
I usually love all of James Petterson's books. This one was "awful". Not sure what happened here. Most are "easy reads". This one jumped from one story, that did not really end to someone else's story. I couldn't even force myself to finish it.
OTwo out of the tree stories I had bought in Book Shoorts, was disapinted that did not show up in the preview of the book.
I enjoyed it but was strange the way it ended.
Short stories can be the most fun and stimulating to read. I found in this series, though, that the first was building and then a disappointing end; the second was building even better and then a soft ending and the third was fabulous all the way through.I like many of James Patterson’s books but wouldn’t rush to recommend this. His characters are all complex and engaging but I felt he fell short on his delivery.
