About the Author
Carla D. Bass retired as an Air Force colonel after 30 years active duty. Throughout her career, she worked directly with general officers and civilian equivalents, ambassadors, congressional delegations, and foreign dignitaries. She wrote letters for executive-level signature; reports for senior military leaders; hundreds of personnel appraisals; nominations for awards, congressional fellowships, and other competitive packages. She composed elevator speeches, talking points, and executive memoranda, much of which was sent to Congress and senior leaders in federal agencies. She wrote and delivered presentations to the Director, National Security Agency and other individuals for whom five minutes was significant. In all instances, each word and every second of the audience's time counted. Colonel Bass developed a handbook on powerful writing that she taught to thousands of Air Force personnel for 15 years. Colonel Bass served in locations to include Germany, Washington, D.C., Korea, Hawaii, and Bulgaria.

though the book has useful tips on writing I was looking for something that deals specifically with proposal and grant writing. The low score is because the book is advertised that it covers this topic and there is absolutely nothing about proposal and grant writing in this book.
Boy oh boy I want to give one of these to everyone I know -- Quality writing is so much more important than people realize, especially in this digital age. If you can't get your point across on paper, you lose, period. The author knows her stuff and anyone wanting to further their skills or their careers would do well to read and re-read this one. Even as an experienced writer and reader I found useful tips and it's joined my favorite desktop resources.
I purchased this first in the kindle edition. After reading through it, I realized that I needed a copy on my desk at work. I ended up buying the paper copy. I wish I had this knowledge 30 years ago!But…I have it now and I am putting it to good use. It takes me a long time to wordsmith using Carla’s methods but the results are worth it.After reading the book, I recognize her style in other’s emails, point papers, and so on.Pick up a copy, or two copies like I did, it won’t disappoint.

It is very well written and simple enough that every targeted audience reaps the benefits.After reading, I immediately worked to change my writing style and eliminate useless words.This book should be a part of everyone's bookshelf with the Thesaurus and Dictionary.
This book was originally a gift to my daughter. However, I read it first and was overwhelmed with gratitude from the moment I read the first chapter. The writing concepts were easily to adapt and most importantly, "made sense". The writing exercises were extremely helpful and handy with my school/office work. I would highly recommend this book for individuals learning to become better writers or for experienced writers looking to brush up on their skill set.
