He outlines the principles and philosophy underlying homeopathic treatment, and explains its basic concepts in accessible language anyone can understand. Dr. Hamilton examines the nature of health, disease and cure, drawing a contrast between "conventional" or allopathic medicine, and homeopathy. He explains that while allopathic medicine relies upon a theoretical approach that equates symptoms with the disease itself, homeopathy utilizes an empirical method of careful observation of each individual patient.This authoritative book provides lucid, detailed advice for using homeopathic medicine to help your companion animals at home, along with clear guidelines for when to seek professional help. Specific information is provided on taking the case, choosing and administering the remedy, and evaluating progress. Chapters on organ systems (skin and ears, digestive system, respiratory system, etc.) include suggestions for remedies appropriate to various conditions, as well as a helpful summary recapping the most important concepts. This book is well written, and author clearly loves animals. He considers the animal's experience in everything we do for them. For example, the quality of life of the animal, vs. the treatment. There are many helpful hints in this book. There are entire sections on flea control. 20 years ago I had a vet tell me that Fipronil (Frontline, etc.) was a class 1 carcinogen, and to never use it on my pet. (I use FleaBusters). I have also been in an ER where a woman's dog was in a coma from Ivermectin (Heartguard). He offers alternatives. I use an herbal product called HW Protect, but he offers ideas of lower dosing for Heartguard, something I was already doing before I switched. The homeopathic remedies in this book have worked for me, but remember you may have try it, observe; see that it works, if not try another remedy. Nux Vomica cured diarrhea and vomiting in my older cat overnight. Don Hamiiton is a very caring and kind person who clearly became an animal doctor for all the right reasons. We are lucky to have doctors like him.

This is an excellent book for pet owners who are interested in homeopathy. One part I didn't agree with is the concept of increasing the number of pellets, according to the size of your pet. In homeopathy, 1pellet is the same as 2,3, or even 100. Similar to lighting one match or 10 simultaneously, it's the same amount of fire. Also the amount of liquid dosing, does not matter either. The dosing chapter is too complicated, as well as the Nature of Cure chapter seems very confusing. Other than that, the book was very informative and the author seems very knowledgeable.

This book is okay but feels outdated. Also, I bought it hoping for homeopathic remedies & although the book does tell things to use; it lacks dosage & recipes. Arnica for sprains... cool, but how much? And topically, or orally?? Disappointed.

This is a great comprehensive book. It gives a thorough explanation of homeopathy, though it is more classical method and does not acknowledge other methods. It gives a good description of each body system and a nice description of the differences between the remedies that may help the various conditions.The book is well organized and covers most conditions your animal may face. I think it is valuable reading for anyone interested in homeopathy . The first 100 pages can relate to people as well as animals.It will be a valuable reference on my shelf.

I admit it. I'm an information junkie. The more content, the better. This book measures up on quality AND quantity. Like a home study course in a book, this guide really helps you learn about homeopathy for your small animal friends. I have been using homeopathic remedies for myself and my pets for years now, and this book is an excellent addition to my library of references. Obviously, you will want to consult with a professional for serious cases, but there are many situations when an educated lay person can use homeopathy to advantage. Up until I got this book, I was using references that related to human applications, and I am grateful to now have such a detailed book on applications for pets. More people are realizing that subtle energy medicine treats causes, not symptoms, and thus gives great results. While I use herbs and supplements as well, homeopathy seems to me to be the purest and least-likely-to-have-side-effects method when used properly. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the right way to use homeopathy for a dog or cat.

This book is pretty helpful with my dogs. The only drawback is that you really need to know more about homeopathic remedies than this book offers in order to use them effectively and wisely; (all homeopathic remedy brands are not created equal) and many remedies recommended are not available in local stores. The author also continuously reminds the reader to seek help from a vet (as in ... you can try this stuff but you may just want to go to a vet.)
