Spelling errors and typos all over the text, for example "sangue dormido" was spelled "sangue dromido" and "Psychoanalytic Orientation" is spelled without the second "t". Definitions of words don't match up, for example "confabulation" does not have the same meaning in Spanish as in English. Ambiguous statements in English that don't make sense. Double spaces or no spaces between words. Sometimes uses the Oxford comma and sometimes doesn't. It looks like someone just put this together using Microsoft Word on a personal laptop and printed it off. Any decent copy editor could have fixed many of these mistakes. Additionally, I don't see the point of this book. The content is about 80% English. If this is a book for mental health professionals to help patients that only speak Spanish, then the Spanish competency level of the professional should be so advanced that the text should not have any English at all. I had to purchase this for a class or I would have never invested in it. Needless to say I will be getting rid of it after my school semester is over.
As a mental health clinician, this manual has been a god send, truly. Easy to understand translations and a comprehensive assessment section has helped me get through otherwise difficult intake assessments with Spanish speaking clients. Highly recommend to clinicians in the field.
I found this manual to be really helpful. It assumes that you are a licensed therapist who knows (some or a lot of) Spanish but that you may need some help with language to do therapy in Spanish. It provides 10 lessons starting from the initial inquiry for service to termination, giving key language and an activity to complete. As someone who was trained in English but has a decent/solid comprehension of Spanish, I found this book very useful in helping me find effective therapeutic language in Spanish.
Google translate puts this book to shame. This book is riddled with errors, basic errors. The authors ought to feel awful and embarrassed.

This is an exemplary, very helpful and uncomplicated manual. I've been a licensed clinical psychologist in Oakland, California for almost 23 years. I can read, write and speak Spanish at an advanced level. Oakland is one of the most culturally diverse cites in the United States, and I have seen just about all people of all races and languages over the years, mostly English- and Spanish-speaking clients. I found this manual to be very informative and very helpful. It covers pertinent Spanish cultural and Spanish that a mental health professional would need to effectively communicate with and to help Spanish-speaking clients. I found it more than sufficient to do a very good interview and mental status examination no matter what level a mental health professional speaks Spanish. Actually, what it covers would be excellent for someone who has no knowledge of Spanish. I've read it twice. Currently, I enjoy using it as an exemplary resource manual.
Basic information for people who will begin the mental health cycle. Will not intimidate anyone new to mental health.
